Day 1: Chandelier Drive Thru Tree, Carson Mansion - Redwood National Park
The "Chandelier Tree" in the Park is a 276-foot (84 m) coastal redwood in Leggett, California measuring 6 feet (1.8 m) wide by 6 feet-9 inches (2.06 m) tall. hole is drilled through to select the box to run through. Its base is 16 ft (4.9 m) in diameter at high horizontal level (horizontal elevation). The name "Chandelier Tree" comes from its unusual limbs that resemble a chandelier.
The Carson Mansion built in 1884 may be the last Victorian building to be located in Old Town - Eureka, California. Considered a prime example of Queen Anne style architecture in the United States and also one of the most written about and photographed Victorian houses in California possibly in the entire United States, the William Carson Mansion is epitomizes the many possibilities that embody the eclectic design that created the distinctive American architectural style.
Day 2: Crater Lake National Park, Shasta Lake
Crater Lake inspires awe. Native Americans witnessed its formation 7,700 years ago, when a violent eruption triggered the collapse of a tall peak. Scientists marvel at its purityfied by rain and snow, it’s the deepest lake in the USA and one of the most pristine on Earth. Artists, photographers, and sightseers gaze in wonder at its blue water and stunning setting atop the Cascade Mountain Range.
Located on the upper Sacramento River in Shasta County, Shasta Lake is the largest man-made lake in California. Also known as Lake Shasta, this large man-made lake or reservoir has a surface area of around 30,000 acres. By acreage, Shasta Lake ranks as the 7th- largest lake in the state of California. You can access the lake from over a half dozen marinas that offer services like boat, kayak, and paddle board rentals, along with food, ice, and souvenirs. Nature enthusiasts can also come to appreciate the local plants and animals in the area, including deer, bears, bald eagles, osprey, and other resident and migrating bird species.
Day 3: Sundial Bridge and back home
The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay crosses the Sacramento River in the heart of Redding, California. As the name suggests, the Sundial Bridge is, in fact, a working sundial and is one of the largest in the world. The sundial shadow traces such a large arc that it can record only four hours a day, from 11am - 3pm. It is not accurate in winter because the shadow is too far into the arboretum to be seen. The shadow, when visible, moves about one foot per minute, so you can readily see it move. In addition to being a functional work of art, the Sundial Bridge is a technical marvel as well. The cable-stayed structure has an inclined, 217 foot pylon constructed of 580 tons of steel. The deck is made up of 200 tons of glass and granite and is supported by more than 4,300 feet of cable. The structure is stabilized by a steel truss, and rests on a foundation of more than 115 tons of steel and 1,900 cubic yards of concrete. The McConnell Foundation, a private, independent foundation established in Redding in 1964, funded the majority of the bridge’s $24 million cost.
